JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, a Republican who has been an ardent backer of President Donald Trump, said Monday that he is resigning to take a leadership position at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Bailey, a 44-year-old Army veteran from Rhineland, had never held an elected office before former Gov. Mike Parson chose him in late 2022.

The appointment is the latest unusual personnel move at the FBI as the Trump administration aims to dramatically reshape the bureau.
