Freddie Freeman’s fall landed him on the injured list. The Los Angeles Dodgers placed their star slugger on the 10-day IL on Thursday after the World Series MVP sprained his surgically repaired right ankle in a slip in the shower at home last weekend.

The Dodgers wanted to exercise caution with a cross-country flight and cold, wet conditions on the East Coast ahead.

Dave Roberts said Freddie Freeman’s ankle is in good enough shape to play, but the team chose to hold him out to avoid worsening the injury or triggering swelling during the long flight. Roberts expects Freeman to be back in the lineup when the Dodgers return home after the trip.
