Georgia's governor has appointed a new justice to the state’s Supreme Court. On Thursday, Gov. Brian Kemp named Judge Benjamin Land to fill the seat vacated by former Chief Justice Michael Boggs, who stepped down in March.

The dog, named Georgia, was found dead on July 13 inside the vehicle's kennel while her handler had gone to the sheriff's office, authorities said.
