A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Bhairabkunda in Sindhupalchowk district early this morning, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center.

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Kathmandu region of Nepal, as reported by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been noted,

Nepal lies in one of the most active tectonic zones (Seismic zones IV and V), making the Himalayan nation extremely vulnerable to earthquakes. So far, the worst quake it has witnessed was in April 2015, when a 7.8 magnitude quake killed more than 9,000 people and damaged over 1 million structures.

A strong earthquake of 6.1 magnitude was felt near Nepal’s Kathmandu early Friday (February 28, 2025) morning. However, there was no immediate report of any damage or causality from the earthquake.

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Kodari Highway in Sindhupalchowk, 65 km east of Kathmandu, at 2.51 am. No immediate damage or casualties reported. Nepal is in a highly seismic zone, having previously experienced a devastating 7.

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit Nepal in the early hours of Friday. The epicentre was in Sindhupalchowk District in the Central Region of the Himalayan nation.The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center in its website stated that the epicentre lies at Sindhupalchowk district's Bhairavkunda at around 2:51 AM (Local Time).
