The U.S. Justice Department and the city of Louisville have reached an agreement to reform the city's police force after an investigation prompted by the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor and police treatment of protesters,

The plan comes more than 4-1/2 years after a Louisville police officer fatally shot Breonna Taylor, a Black woman, during a nighttime raid on her apartment.

The agreement comes after the Justice Department documented excessive use of force, illegal searches and car stops and widespread discrimination against Black people and those with mental illnesses.
