Tropical Depression 3 strengthened into Tropical Storm Chantal on Saturday, July 5, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center.

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Storm Chantal. (pronounced shahn-TAHL) Chantal is expected to move towards South Carolina this weekend making landfall by late Sunday as a Tropical Storm. High surf, rip currents, and heavy rains will be the main concerns for the coastal Carolinas.

With rain bands and thunderstorm already reaching the Wilmington area Saturday morning, part of the area is under a tropical storm warning.
