The McLaren Racing Formula One team has clarified why Oscar Piastri was not a part of the team's championship celebrations.
McLaren team principal Zak Brown has issued a statement on Oscar Piastri amid growing rumours that the world championship leader could be set for a shock exit. With just six races left of the Formula 1 campaign, Piastri holds a narrow 22-point lead over his teammate Lando Norris.
Instead of bouncing back in Sprint qualifying in Austin, Piastri, by his own admission, had a “pretty scruffy lap” where he “just didn’t really get it together”. In a season in which Norris has been the one complaining about his qualifying laps, the Briton finished ahead of his teammate.
