A swathe of urgent warnings have been issued for Aussie travellers, with multiple countries under threat of a tsunami following an 8.6 magnitude earthquake.

MELBOURNE, Australia -- A magnitude-6.6 earthquake struck in the South Pacific near the island nation of Samoa on Friday, but caused no apparent damage. The quake occurred 440 kilometers (273 miles) southwest of the capital Apia at a depth of 314 kilometers (195 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaii after a 6.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Samoa Islands region on Thursday afternoon.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the tremor struck some 440 kilometres southwest of Apia, Samoa’s capital.
