Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre took an early lead over Chula Vista Mayor John McCann in the Board of Supervisors District 1 race, according to Wednesday morning results.

Aguirre said residents "now have a fighter at the county Board of Supervisors who will hold the line against the Trump administration."

Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre became the apparent winner this week in a San Diego County Board of Supervisors run-off election after Chula Vista Mayor John McCann conceded. Aguirre's unofficial victory, which is awaiting certification, gives Democrats control of the board.
