This Tuesday, 1st April, in the south-west of Iceland, the volcano Sundhnúkagígar erupted, resulting in a massive fissure in the ground. This fissure extends for 1.2km long, near the famous Blue Lagoon spa and the small fishing village of Grindavik.

A volcano erupted to the south of Iceland's capital on Tuesday, spewing lava and smoke in a fiery display of orange and red that triggered the evacuation of tourists and residents, although air traffic continued as normal.

A volcanic eruption in southwest Iceland on Tuesday forced the evacuation of the town of Grindavík and the nearby Blue Lagoon tourist site, as lava and smoke poured from a newly opened fissure.
