Through popular elections in November of even numbered years, Lynchburg citizens regularly choose the 7 members of City Council. With staggered 4-year terms of office, City Council is elected on either an At-large (3 members) or Ward (4 members) representational basis.

Jan 3, 2025 · In a 4-3 vote at a council meeting January 3, 2025, Councilman Larry Taylor got the nod to be Lynchburg Mayor. Taylor has been an at-large member of the council since 2023.
