The story of the Chickasaw people began long ago when two brothers, Chahta and Chiksa', led their people eastward in search of a new home. To guide them, Aba' Bínniꞌliꞌ (the Creator) gifted them a sacred pole, Itti' Fabassa' Holitto'pa'. They would place this pole in the ground every night before they fell asleep and whichever way it leaned at dawn would be the way the group would travel.
