I had the chance to test one of these Bates Salty 150 reels. I put it through the stress of battling large bull reds, which if it can handle those, it can handle big stripers just fine. But I was most impressed with the cast distance and the braking mechanism and here’s what that looks like. I just whipped a lure out there and didn’t thumb the spool to see what would happen. It’s been over a year since I have been running the @batesfishingco Salty 150. This thing has landed stripers over 50” and giant bull reds that pull like a train. But the thing I really like is that it’s the best casting baitcaster I have used for not only the insane distance but also the ability to limit bird nests. Here’s an example.
