In 1985, Fijians experienced a rare and unforgettable spectacle when the Whirling Brothers Circus toured the country, bringing with it animals and performances many people had never seen before. According to The Fiji Times (July 3, 1985), the circus featured an extraordinary lineup of acts including monkeys, clowns, jugglers, whip-crackers, rope spinners, sword and dagger balance acts, and spine-tingling trapeze and aerial performances by artists from Europe.
