On this day in 1966, Motown's V.I.P. label released The Elgins' hit single, "Heaven Must Have Sent You." Originally intended for the Supremes, the song was recorded by The Elgins as a follow-up to "Put Yourself in My Place" and "Darling Baby." Written by the legendary Holland-Dozier-Holland, it became a top-10 R&B tune. Five years later, the song regained popularity on the British charts, prompting the label to re-release it in the US.
