After one of the performances of “Gospel Messiah: A Refugee Oratorio”, which is based on Handel’s “Messiah”, someone asked me why I didn’t include a version of the Hallelujah Chorus. I said that in this refugee story, there was nothing to celebrate. Reason for hope, yes, but not for rejoicing. That’s kind of how I feel about this holiday season. We can share a bit of hope and take refuge in what is sacred to us. For me, it’s music, as in this brief organ meditation. | Jack Maeby
